Mobile computers for mobile workers

With this solution, walking workers are able to connect to critical information and applications in real-time, enhancing information accuracy and enabling field-based decision-making. The Toughbook U1 will thrive in environments such as repair sites, and increase efficiency for tasks including outage management and Automated Meter Reading (AMR).

Unlike handhelds running on Windows Mobile or Windows CE, the Toughbook U1 operates on the full-function Windows XP and Vista operating systems, giving users unprecedented remote access to feature-rich software applications in the field. The U1 features an upfront, thumb-friendly, backlit QWERTY keyboard that makes data input fast and easy, as well as state-of-the-art Panasonic LCD technology for sunlight viewability with low-power white LED backlighting.

The product’s sealed all-weather design allows for use in inclement weather; its fanless design utilizes heat-pipes to reduce weight and eliminate points of failure; its hot-swappable batteries enable battery replacement without disrupting operation; and its solid state drive provides protection from bumps and drops and expands the U1’s operating temperature range.

The Toughbook U1 offers:
• Draft-n compliant WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/draft-n) for faster speeds and greater range
• Integrated Bluetooth radios for simple connection to wireless peripherals
• Integrated 3G mobile broadband for access anywhere with voice/data coverage
• Optional next generation GPS technology (Fast GPS-3W) for improved accuracy, faster satellite acquisition time and lower power consumption
• MIL-STD-810F and IP 54 compliant

The base Toughbook U1 model is available from authorized Panasonic resellers and distributors. For further information on the new Panasonic Toughbook U1, please visit
